How RankMyShopify collects, uses and protects your personal information when you visit our website, request a free audit or work with us.

Last updated: 26 October 2026

Who we are

This website, rankmyshopify.com, is run by RankMyShopify, a Shopify marketing and SEO agency based in India (“RankMyShopify”, “we”, “us” or “our”). We are responsible for the personal information described in this policy.

If you have any questions about this policy or your information, contact us at info@rankmyshopify.com or +91 98889 23755.

Information we collect

We collect only what we need to answer you, deliver our services and run this website:

  • Information you give us: your name, email address, phone number, website or Shopify store URL, company name and anything you write in a contact form, audit request, email, WhatsApp message or call.
  • Client information: if you become a client, billing details, project communications and the access you grant us to tools such as Shopify, Google Search Console, Google Analytics or ad accounts.
  • Usage information: pages visited, time on site, device and browser type, approximate location from your IP address, and how you arrived on our site, collected through cookies and analytics tools.
  • Technical and security data: IP addresses and request logs that help us protect the site from spam and attacks.

We do not ask for, and do not want, sensitive information such as health, financial account or government ID details. Please do not send it to us.

How we use your information

  • To reply to your enquiry and provide quotes, proposals and the services you ask for.
  • To run the free AI SEO audit: when you submit your website and email, our system checks publicly available information about that website (including through Google PageSpeed Insights) and emails the report to you, with a copy to our team.
  • To manage client projects, invoices and payments.
  • To understand how visitors use our website so we can improve content and design.
  • To keep the website secure, prevent spam and abuse, and meet legal and tax obligations.
  • To send you service updates, and occasional marketing emails only where you have agreed or where the law allows. You can unsubscribe at any time.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for automated decisions that have legal or similarly significant effects on you.

Where laws such as the UK GDPR or EU GDPR apply, we rely on: contract (to provide services you request), legitimate interests (to run, secure and improve our business and website), consent (for non-essential cookies and marketing, which you can withdraw at any time) and legal obligation (for accounting and tax records). Where India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act 2023 applies, we process your data for the purposes you provide it for and with your consent where required.

Cookies and analytics

Our website uses cookies and similar technologies. Some are essential for the site to work, such as security and caching cookies. Others help us understand how the site is used. We currently use:

  • Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager to measure visits and traffic sources.
  • Microsoft Clarity to understand how visitors use pages, including heatmaps and anonymised session recordings.
  • Burst Statistics, a privacy-friendly analytics tool hosted on our own server.
  • HubSpot, which powers one of our enquiry forms and may set its own cookies.
  • The “Ask AI” chat assistant, a third-party tool that processes the questions you type into it.

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Blocking some cookies may affect how the site works. Google explains how it uses data at policies.google.com, and Microsoft at privacy.microsoft.com.

Who we share information with

We share personal information only with service providers who help us run our business, and only as much as they need:

  • Website hosting, security, caching and backup providers.
  • Google Workspace, which we use for email, including emails sent from our website forms.
  • Analytics providers listed in the cookies section.
  • Communication tools you choose to use with us, such as WhatsApp, phone and video-call services.
  • HubSpot (enquiry forms) and the provider of our “Ask AI” chat assistant, which process what you type into them.
  • Freelance marketplaces such as PeoplePerHour, if you hire us through one. Their own privacy policies apply to data you give them.
  • Professional advisers, and authorities where the law requires it.

Some of these providers are located outside your country, including in the United States and the European Union. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as standard contractual clauses offered by those providers.

Data in your store and accounts

When we work on your Shopify store or marketing accounts, we may see data about your customers. We access it only to deliver the agreed work, never sell or reuse it, never export it unless needed for the task, and follow your instructions. You remain responsible for your own store’s privacy policy and for having a lawful basis to share access with us. We are happy to sign a data processing agreement where your business needs one.

How long we keep information

  • Enquiries and audit requests that do not lead to work: up to 24 months, then deleted.
  • Client contracts, invoices and payment records: for as long as tax and accounting laws require.
  • Project communications and files: for the length of the project and up to 3 years afterwards, unless you ask us to delete them sooner.
  • Analytics data: according to the retention settings of each tool, typically 14 to 26 months.

How we protect your information

We use HTTPS across the site, a security plugin with firewall and login protection, regular backups and access limited to the people who need it. When you give us access to your Shopify or marketing accounts, we prefer staff or collaborator access over shared passwords, and you can remove our access at any time. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security, but we act quickly if a problem occurs.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

  • Ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
  • Ask us to correct or update it.
  • Ask us to delete it, where we do not need to keep it for legal reasons.
  • Object to or restrict how we use it, including for direct marketing.
  • Withdraw consent you have given at any time.
  • Ask us to transfer it to you or another provider in a common format.

These rights come from laws including the UK and EU GDPR, India’s DPDP Act 2023, the California Consumer Privacy Act, Canada’s PIPEDA, Australia’s Privacy Act, Singapore’s PDPA, South Africa’s POPIA and Saudi Arabia’s PDPL. To use any of them, email info@rankmyshopify.com. We will reply within one month, or sooner where your local law requires. You also have the right to complain to the data protection authority in your country.

Children

Our website and services are for businesses and are not aimed at children. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

Our site links to other websites, such as Shopify, Google, social networks and client stores. We are not responsible for their content or privacy practices, so please read their own policies.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when our services, tools or the law change. The “last updated” date at the top shows when it last changed. For significant changes, we will let clients know by email.
